New York MoMA and Brooklyn Bridge

New York MoMA and Brooklyn Bridge

After a day of rest being New Yorkers near our apartment on Saturday, we ventured to the Museum of Modern Art on Sunday. This was for Ruth as it’s not on Paul’s agenda, but he came in and lasted about an hour and a half.

Entrance is $25 each which was very reasonable and you also get an audio set with that so you can do a self guided tour.

We started with the architectural gallery and I really liked the solution to homelessness – see photo of large gold balloon. The only trouble is these are designed to inflate over the sidewalk vents and the way these smell on occasions, I would not like to be stuck in a balloon full of that air overnight!

We then explored the 1940 – 1980 painting and sculpture collection. Paul left me here and went to find Appleby’s at Times Square – a pretty safe place to meet that we can both find!

I then went to a few other galleries and have put a few photos of my favourite artworks on the blog. Ironically, our unit in East Village has a print of Starry Night on the wall – but it was great to see the original hanging in the gallery.

I really enjoyed the MoMA and could have easily spent an other hour or two looking around. I was hoping to see the Rain Room but it was 3 hour line up so I gave it a miss – I am sure it will be on the net to see soon.

After a light lunch at Appleby’s I had only one more ‘must do’ for New York. That was to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge – just like in the movies. Paul was not keen so we compromised and got a taxi over the bridge to Brooklyn, then back across the Manhattan Bridge. I can’t believe a taxi from Times Square, across the Brooklyn Bridge and back to East Village cost $35 (including the tip).

It was a bit disappointing as the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge was all covered in due to bridge work so our compromise to go by taxi was a good result.
The photos below are a mix from our taxi ride and the hop on bus where we could view the bridge.
