Busan, South Korea Wednesday May 1, 2013

Today we are in Busan, South Korea for a very short port stop. We docked at 6 am and left at 1.30 pm.

We caught the shuttle in to town (20 minute drive) and went to the Jalgalchi Fish market that is world renowned. There was creatures there we had never seen before, or imagined. Our photos show them, but we cannot name them. The majority of seafood was in water tanks, still alive, waiting to be purchased. We watched a few purchases and the locals let the stall holders know very strongly if they are not happy with the prices. It was good to see the locals bartering instead of us.

There are restaurants opposite the fish markets where you choose your seafood at the restaurant entrance and they cook it for you. We are hoping that we are in this port for longer next week when we return, so we can enjoy lunch in one of the restaurants. If only the Newcastle Co-op sold everything still alive and this fresh!!!

Then we walked down the street looking for shops. Hardly anything was open at 10 am. There is an extensive underground shopping centre so we ventured down to find about 5 shops open out of hundreds. We have now found out they were closed for May Day (1-5) holiday.

So after a stroll we came above ground again and walked around the market area we visited last time.

What a shame they were having a holiday when you were there – it would have been fun looking through all those shops!!!!!
