Glacier Bay 20-5-13

Another glorious day as we cruise into Glacier Bay. Last time we cruised through lots of small ice bergs but today the water is almost clear of ice as we approach the glaciers.

Again we stood of the magnificent Marjorie Glacier for about an hour and it calved constantly. Paul got some great movies so my still shots are not worthwhile for this day.

The Grand Pacific Glacier is not a spectacular sight, but an example of a different type of glacier that has no new ice near the water. You just see the moraine (rocks and dirt) that the glacier had dragged down the valley. The interesting feature was the change in water colour where the fresher water met the sea water – quite a distinct line of colour difference.

We spent most of our day on our balcony – the best seat in the house. We were sheltered from the breeze and at the perfect height to see the best of Marjorie!
